Triple crowned Port from Boplaas loved by Portuguese Port Makers

Carel and Margaux Nel the father and daughter winemaking team from Boplaas visited the Douro Valley recently during the harvest.

One of the samples they took along was the Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2006. The 2006 was made from low yielding Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barocca and Souzoa grapes. This stunning Port got a Veritas Double Gold medal, a Platter 5 star award and the only Vintage Port to get a 5 star rating in Wine Magazine this year.

Boplaas also made the SA Champion Port at the SA Young Wine Show in 2006.

The Nel team stayed with the Symingtons at Quinta Bomfim and tasted old Vintage Ports every night. Both Peter Symington and Dirk Niepoort was amazed with the deep black colour and the fruit intensity of the 2006 Boplaas Reserve.

Dirk Niepoort also opened a bottle of 1863 Niepoort Port. This lovely old Port was still in perfect condition and it showed why Port is a drink for Kings.
